Funny advert placement

I'm sorry to my more serious readers, but I just could not resist when I saw this. The ad placement next to a story about our work on sexual versus asexual reproduction is priceless. The full story appears here on the UPI site. The paper is here on the Molecular Biology and Evolution site.

  1. Hilarious!

Though as a side note, I'm always annoyed by articles that say scientists have discovered something completely new, when they are in fact verifying an idea that has been around for a long time.

  2. HI Ben:
Since we are "stable-mates" at FoS, I assume that your comment was aimed at the Science News article (hopefully not the research article it cites). You probably are referring to the first sentence: "Iowa researchers say they've determined living organisms have good reason for engaging in sexual rather than asexual reproduction." It is true that we haven't "determined" this and we did not "say" that we did. Unfortunately these hyperbolic statements are common fare in some science journalism. Have a look at the original press release from which the article derives.

  3. What I like about that first line is that you've determined it for "living organisms." It just doesn't work that well for the dead ones. :-)
